DESCRIPTION: EPW - Swiss, split-seconds chronograph with 30-minute register, mvt marked for retailer G.W. Clemmer of Akron, Ohio, 47mm, 14K gold OF original case with initials to rear, gold cuvette with engraved name, white enamel DS dial, SW-SS, lever escapement with capped escape wheel, 18J or greater, wolf's tooth winding, fausses-cĂ´tes pattern nickel damascene, s#8944 with matching serial number within case. Gross weight of assembled watch 48.5 dwt (75.5 g). An attractive high grade split-seconds chronograph, its cuvette engraving and rear initials are for Arthur H. Marks, a chemist who invented a process to recycle old rubber, and this development was of great importance to the automobile tire industry. Marks was to progress within the industry to the point of ultimately being a vice-president of B.F. Goodrich Tire Company.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, good chronograph function aside from occasional tendency of split-seconds-hands to stall as it passes the dial's 6 position before skipping ahead to rejoin the leading hand, good split split-seconds function aside from aforementioned issue, good 30-minute register function, nearly mint cosmetic mvt condition overall, few scattered micro-fine scratches, few small bits of oxide to chronograph mechanism element at perimeter of main plate; dial with hls within its 30-minute register, some surface rub to area below center of 30-minute register where it appears some form of marking may have once existed and been removed, few small glaze scratches and nicks elsewhere; nearly mint hands; case shows very light wear, group of dings to band and adjacent area of bezel between 7 and 8, good engraving detail; tight bow, crown shows light wear; good glass crystal.
